How to stop blushing

Many people are suffering from blushing problems and the reason for this is because they actually have a social anxiety, or fear of being judged and criticized by other people. Social anxiety (phobia) will make many to sweat and blush beyond control. If someone suffers from excessive blushing, he/she has to know that there are ways to solve blushing problems and cure blushing forever.

The cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is one of the methods to tackle blushing problems. CBT is a kind of treatment that can provide the necessary change of the way people think, and feel about certain social situations. Medications can also aid against blushing problems, but the alcohol that some might already be using to ease social anxiety cannot. Anti-anxiety medications, beta-blockers, and anti-depressants are proven to successfully tackle problems with social anxiety and the excessive blushing in particular.

There is a surgical procedure available to help control blushing. It is called Endoscopic Transthoracic Sympathicotomy (ETS). Because this is an operation, it is only used as a last resort. ETS is as serious and risky as every surgery and it is done under general anesthesia. The patient has the links between the nerves and the blood vessels of the face cut off as a result of ETS. Hypnotherapy is a less painful method to deal with blushing. While hypnotized, the sufferer will be able to get into his/her unconscious mind and find the roots of the problem. Appropriate suggestions will then be introduced and the patient will come out from the session feeling refreshed, less self-conscious, and less inclined to blushing.

Blushing is usually triggered by emotional stress and it is difficult to control. The experts say this happens because the sympathetic nervous system is overactive. Those who suffer from blushing quite frequently also suffer from social anxiety as well, which causes symptoms as severe blushing for no reason, feeling of a hot face, and embarrassment.

When you blush without a reason, feel social anxiety, avoid talking to new people or have plain embarrassment, the most likely cause is overactive sympathetic nervous system. Blushing is a reaction on a subconscious level to an emotional trigger, causing blood vessels to open wider and flood the face, neck and ears. To stop blushing you have to make use of your para-sympathetic nervous system, and allow it to dampen the overactive sympathetic nervous system.

The easiest method to make the para-sympathetic nervous system to decrease anxiety is to use the so-called seven-eleven breathing. Meaning that you have to breathe in for a count of seven, hold briefly, and breathe out for a count of eleven. The breathing technique needs to be practiced in a quiet place, and use it to calm your racing heart and cool down your red face.

As we said already, hypnosis is a very useful tool in stopping blushing. The relaxation lowers anxiety and calms down the nervous system. While experiencing relaxation, you may use your imagination to experience social situations and keep your cool, most importantly those experiences that would normally blush your face.

Seek medical advice when you feel your blushing is caused by non-diagnosed medical problem, such as the “hot flush” associated with menopause, medication side effects or skin condition. In some severe cases, the only way of stopping the blushing is surgery, but for most people this dangerous and used as a last resort step is not required, especially if hypnosis is used to cure blushing. You have to allow your body and mind to solve the problems, and you will discover that the secret of stopping the blushing is in your hands.
